Local Market

I snapped these pictures when walking through a traditional Korean market. This market is located on my way from my first place of employment to my second and takes place about twice a month. It's always a real treat to experience the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and just overall feel of traditional Korea.

Not that day but sometimes I buy grannie-made rice cakes, fresh fruit, or chow down on some hot and sweet pepper paste rice cakes and deep fried battered squid or hot peppers.

Mmmmm...

What have you eaten lately Jo?

Well, I believe I have had some deep fried battered squid lately too ... you know ... calamari :-)

Hahaha...

How exotic of me...

Actually, the 'calamari' contains squid that is at least five times meatier than the stuff back home so it retains a heavier 'fishy' taste. Also the batter is quite different, the Korean stuff is quite a bit more heavy than the stuff we eat back home. Also there is no lime to sprinkle on top, instead you dip it in a community pot of soy sauce mixed with hot peppers...
