This Weekend We Checked Out the Oriantal Herb Medicine Festival in Daegu!!!

An area of Daegu called Yangnyeongsi is the Oriental medicine hub of Korea and has a 350 year history. This festival clearly and most obviously celebrates this long history.

As Alissa and I navigated the crowded, narrow pedestrian street the first thing that is noticeable is the pungently wonderful smell of herbs. The smell is something that is hard to describe because it really smells like nothing that we've smelt before in the west, but I can assure you the smell is a real treat for the nose.

The eyes also get treated to the lush green and flowering herb gardens that hog most of the granite-tiled street. These gardens flow majestic and free and seem to spill out of the ground reaching out to the many herb pharmacies and Oriental medicine clinics that line Yandnyeongsi.
