Meandering In The Maritimes: Getting Ready For The Wedding

It was awesome fun to be put up with all the cousins at Karla & Greg's place.

Meandering In The Maritimes: The Night Before The Wedding

The night before the wedding turned wild when the sisters had more than a few glasses of wine!

It scared us for life...

DAMN YOU SEXY POSE!!!

Meandering In The Maritimes: A Trip To Peggy's Cove- Part V: Lunch And A Walk Through Town

After crawling around on the rocks for a while we worked up and appetite and headed for the ol' Sou' Wester restaurant just behind the lighthouse. Check out this link to a cool live webcam of the view from the Sou' Wester.

We stuffed ourselves with there famous fresh muscles, digby oysters, clam chowder, and, of course, fish and chips.

After filling up on the sea's bounty, we made our way down to the quaint little fishing village. As it turned out, an old gift shop that we visited (the one where this whale vertebrae was leaning up against) was washed out to sea a few days later when Hurricane Bill struck!

Meandering In The Maritimes: A Trip To Peggy's Cove- Part IV: That Iconic Lighthouse

The fog rolling in, the sound of bagpipes in the distance, that old light house standing proud...

If this doesn't typify the maritimes, I don't know does.

Meandering In The Maritimes: A Trip To Peggys Cove- Part III: Life On the Rocks

Algae pools, miniature flowers, and hardy plants add life to this almost inhabitable environment constantly being battered by wind and waves.

Of course most of the life on these rocks are the flocks of tourist that visit from nearby Halifax.

Meandering In The Maritimes: A Trip To Peggy's Cove- Part II: Rocks & Waves

After a sobering moment at the memorial, we went out and played around on the rocks. Climbing on the beautiful formations seems to bring out the child in everyone.

Sitting on the edge of large rock with our legs dangling toward the untamed ocean waves below, we stared into the foggy distance listening to the waves throw themselves haphazardly against the rolling shore.

Meandering In The Maritimes: A Trip To Peggy's Cove- Part I: The SwissAir 111 Memorial

Super thanks to Eileen who woke up early on Friday morning to drive us out to Peggy's Cove.

First stop on the tour was the SwissAir 111 memorial. The gravity of the memorial became apparent as a man (presumably of European descent) put his head on the memorial and started to weep uncontrollably.

Meandering In The Maritimes: How To Eat The Bestest, Freshest Lobsters In All Of Canada- Part II

Garret and Barbra showed up just in time for the lobster cookin.

After the water is at boiling the live lobsters go in. A few minutes later a very yummy looking skin forms on the surface of the water.

It doesn't take long before these guys are ready to eat. When they are pulled out of the water their shells magically turn a bright red.

Look at the size of those guys... yummy! We ate lobster until we couldn't eat lobster. What a feast!

Meandering In The Maritimes: How To Eat The Bestest, Freshest Lobsters In All Of Canada- Part I

Our newly acquired uncle, Kevin, bent over backwards for us (yes, you did too Eleen) during our six day stay. This is more of Kevin's “How To” than ours.

Kevin picked up Alissa, Matthew, and our cousin and Richard's sister, Carolyn, and we headed out side Halifax to the Head of Jeddore to a famous fresh seafood shop called Lobster World in Muskadobit.

On the way there Carolyn claimed that she knew ½ the town in that little fishing village by the sea.

When we arrived at Lobster World we were greeted at the door by a friend of Carolyn's (she wasn't kidding). He took us to where the lobsters are stored.

The shop is actually backing right onto the sea. The lobsters are stored in large grey bins that remain submerged until hungry sea-food lovers come to buy them up.

Carolyn's burly buddy helped us to select the best ones and after playing around with the feisty crustaceans we headed back to Kevin & Eleen's place with 8 new passengers.

When we got back to their place in Halifax (Dartmouth- to be exact), we opened up the box in the back yard and gave our soon-to-be-meals some final concessions as we prepared the lobster cookin equipment.
